These cells divide more quickly than healthy cells & then begin to accumulate, forming a lump or mass.  These cancer cells may spread throughout the breast & into lymph nodes or to other parts of the body.

However, there are several risk factors that are known to affect your chances of developing breast cancer.

Factor that are linked with an increased risk of breast cancer include:

  • Being a woman
  • Increasing age
  • A Family history of breast cancer
  • Obesity
  • A personal history of breast cancer
  • Inherited genetic mutations, like BRCA1 & BRCA2
  • Radiation exposure to your chest as a teenager or young adult
  • Beginning your menstrual cycle before the age of 12
  • Starting menopause at an older age
  • Never being pregnant
  • Having your first kid at an older age
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Hormone therapy

Types of Breast Cancer

There are mainly two categories that reflect the nature of breast cancer:-

  • Non invasive (in situ) cancer is cancer that has not increase from the original tissue. This is referred to as stage 0.
  • Invasive cancer is cancer that has increase to surrounding tissues. These are categorized as stages 1, 2, 3, or 4.

The tissue affected determines the Breast cancer types:

Ductal Carcinoma is a cancer that forms in the lining of the milk ducts. This is the most general type of breast cancer.

Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) is one type of breast cancer in the lobules of the breast. The lobules are where milk is produced.

Sarcoma is cancer in the breast’s connective tissue. This is an uncommon type of breast cancer.

Treatments for Breast Cancer:-

Depending on the stage and type of cancer, treatments can vary. Most breast cancer is cured with surgery, frequently along with further treatments to help rid the body of cancer cells.

  • Biological therapy
