Sania Mirza – The First Indian Woman to be World’s No.1 in Woman’s Double Tennis
Indian Tennis player Sania Mirza has made history. She becomes the first Indian woman to the number one doubles player in the world. After making the pair with Switzerland player Martina Hingis, since that they both have won 14 matches in a row.
Sania Mirza with Martina Hingis, they defeated Casey Delakwa and Darija Jurak by 6-0, 6-4 in WTA Family circle Cup tennis tournament on Sunday. At the same time, they not only won but also acquired a number one ranking. Casey Deakwa and Darija Jurak’s pair defeted Marina Irakovic and Andrea Percovich pair by 6-4, 1-6, 10-5 and reached it to the final.
Earlier, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis despite of losing in the second set of the semi-finals against Russian pair Anastasia Pavliyuchkiva and Ella Kudrayastewa, they defeated them by 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. Match was interrupted during the second set due to the rain, they Russian pair got chance to equal the points. Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the first set but the Russian pair won the second set and had comeback in the match. However, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the next set and won the match.
