Pink Ball to be tested by Top Indian Cricketers in Duleep Trophy
The future Duleep Trophy will be a dress rehearsal for the pink cricket ball test to be played later this year. A pink cricket ball worsen more slowly than while white ball, but have improved night visible than red ball, making them the most appropriate ball for day-night Test match. Top Cricketers are likely to play with the pink ball in Duleep Trophy, as India has joined the team of the test playing nations who want to play the day-night Tests.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Anurag Thakur affirmed that Pink Ball to be tested by Top Cricketers in Duleep Trophy. This puts an end to the assumptions about a mini IPL being hosted later in the year came to an end in recent times. The plan will help decide the feasibility of pink ball Test in the month of October, keeping in mind the India’s test match against New Zealand. And, it also gives Indian cricketers some valuable practice with the pink ball.
Anurag Thakur, the president of BCCI, not only informed the availability of top cricketers, but also stressed on the opinion aspect that will help the board know better about what cricketers feel when playing with a pink ball.
Anurag Thakur said, “All cricketers will be playing Duleep Trophy, that’s why we have gone for day-night domestic cricket for the first time. We want to know how the cricketers feels, how the dew conditions will be. With top cricketers playing we will get an excellent feedback”.
The Duleep Trophy with the plan of pink ball cricket might just get back to its lost value as it was also cancelled last season due to a busy schedule and some internal clashes within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Indian cricket board had although assured then that the tournament will be back, the first ever day-night test match between Australia and New Zealand and the victory of it, was the spark that Indian cricket board was looking for.
The Indian Cricket board will be keeping an eye on how things go when the Duleep Trophy gets ongoing as a dress rehearsal for the game before the Test match against New Zealand. Anurag Thakur said, “We will come to know what benefits & disadvantages are of playing with pink ball. Before jumping straight away in Tests match these top Indian cricketers will be playing it in Duleep Trophy. We will make sure that top Indian players take part in Duleep Trophy.”
Some Indian cricketers had also supported the plan of Test match with pink ball including Cheteshwar Pujara & Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli had said before Australia’s day-night cricket against New Zealand that teams should be in for it. Kohli said, “As cricketers we all should be willing & accepting of the fact that we need to step forward as well as contribute to the game however possible. If this is a step towards increasing the popularity & the excitement of Test match, then I think each team should be in for it.”
Last week in Indian cricket board working committee meet, Anurag Thakur had talked about the importance of focusing more on Test match. As the Indian Cricket team was heading into the T20 World Cup 2016, the Board had planned schedule accordingly to help India plan well for the event. Similarly, the Board wants to plan a schedule focusing on Test cricket as India gets ready to play 13 Tests at home, after the four Test tour in the West Indies.
For now, the old inter zonal system of Duleep Trophy will be bitted & instead this time, the tournament will aspect four teams, picked by the national selectors, facing each other in the round robin basis & every team will play atleast three games.
