Chili peppers may prevent liver from damage
Researcher found that the capsaicin can decrease the creation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) in mice model. HSCs are the main cell which concerned in liver fibrosis that is that the formation of scar tissue in response to liver harm.
The study had done on the two groups and given capsaicin in their food. In which they observed the below mention results.
In the study, the first group was given chili pepper after 3 days of bile duct ligation (BDL) in which the common bile duct is obstructed, leading to bile accumulation and liver fibrosis.
And the second group was given capsaicin before and during the chronic carbon tetrachloride treatment (CCl4).
CCI4 is an inorganic compound that was mainly used in fire extinguishers, as a precursor to refrigerant and as a cleaning agent. It’s known to be one of the most potent hepatotoxins.
The result proved those capsaicins can partially improved damage liver condition in the BDL mice and inhibited more progression of the injury.
In the 2nd cluster of CCI4-treated mice, capsaicin prevented livers from injury development in the livers but did not decrease the fibrosis when it was already established.
Researchers said that these results need to be further investigation on capsaicin for the treatment and prevention of liver injury and fibrosis.
The study revealed during the International Liver Congress 2015 in Austria, Vienna on April 23.
